Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Matt T — 05 Jan 2013
Stand By Me has to be in my 10 favourite films. The four leads are fantastic - and give a tour de force performance that will have you laughing with them, and then crying with them.
We have friendship, bereavement, bullying, trains, a pie eating contest, scares, leeches, and of course a dead body.
Looking back at this film, you can't help as to wonder why nothing really came of the four main actors. River Phoenix, of course died tragically young at Jonny Depp's LA nightclub. Wil Wheaton will be forever linked to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Corey Feldman showed huge early promise, but floundered. And Jerry O'Connell lost all of the weight, but was last seen losing his penis to a piranha.
The ending of this film will always be poignant. As River Phoenix fades from.
View, it is a reminder of a star that had been snubbed out far too early. I can't believe that there are none of you who haven't seen this film, so please, revisit it again soon.
