Review of Stand & Deliver (2001) by Daryn C — 20 Aug 2007
This is an excellent film! I think Lou Diamond Phillips best performance. This film deserve more respect than "Dangerous Minds" and "Lean on Me," because it doesn't perpetuate the "great white hope" story line found in many inner-city high school films like "Dangerous Minds" and it also does not romanticize corporal punishment and kicking out disruptive youth like "Lean on Me" does.
It is a true story about a Latino teacher working in a predominantly Latino school giving all students an opportunity despite their initial signs of disruption.
