Review of Stand & Deliver (2001) by Christopher S — 12 Feb 2012
Definitely one of the better films based in LA and I could see how this film made the AFI's list of one of the Most Inspiring Films. Edward James Olmos was excellent as the hard working and dedicated Jaime Escalante and many of the kids who played the students (like Lou Diamond Phillips) were very good as well.
The banter between the teacher and the students was well done. Because most of the film really occurred in real life in a barrio school, this film should serve as a reminder to many teachers that anything is possible although the No Child Left Behind laws make it tougher to accomplish anything.
Very good film, well paced and must see for all teachers and aspiring teachers.
