Review of Stand and Deliver (1928) by Joe S — 07 Apr 2008
Based on a true story about Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, with a largely Hispanic student population, and on the verge of losing accreditation.
A new teacher, Jaime Escalante dared to challenge his math students, with remarkable results. Escalante later earned national recognition for his accomplishments.
The movie is still fun to watch after 20 years. Edward James Olmos is just about perfect as the quirky but brilliant Escalante.
I enjoyed the movie for several reasons, not least of which the math shown in the movie is completely authentic.
