Review of Stan Helsing (2009) by Aleks C — 17 Aug 2010
The good old days of parodies such as 'Airplane,' 'Young Frankenstein,' and 'Scary Movie' are long gone. These days they only use washed up or disturbingly awkward jokes. There is no more altering a movie to make it funny, just bringing those characters into random situations and calling it a spoof.
This ongoing downfall of the parody continues in 'Stan Helsing' as a group of four friends take a detour on their way to a party and end up in a small town that is cursed by the biggest monsters in cinematic history: Freddy, Jason, Pinhead, Leatherface, Chucky, and Michael Meyers.
Stan is actually a decendent of the great monster killer, Van Helsing, and the people of the town expect him to rid them of this awful curse. The acting in this film was horendous. The jokes unfunny. It tried way too hard to get the laugh.
But what can you expect from a straight-to-DVD release?! My one-star is for Leslie Neilson playing a waitress.
