Review of Stake Land (2010) by Matt A — 23 Feb 2012
The vampire film.... done to death... some bad (Twilight) some good (Blade), this ones pretty decent. From the opening scene you know its going to be gorey, gritty and very bleak. Think of the film as Walking Dead with vampires.
It feels pretty real in the way society would try to carry on after an epidemic of vampirism. Small communities are set up with security, religious fanatic groups, rapes, complete meltdown of any morals from certain people.
There are some quite shocking scenes throughout the film and although we don't get a lot of backstory from most of the characters you actually care about them. The only downside is the abrupt ending.
Leaves it wide open for maybe a sequel. Brilliant film though.
