Review of Stake Land (2010) by Ryan R — 29 Apr 2011
The Vampire Apocalypse done indie style. Little Miss Sunshine meets 28 Days Later. (Shit, how awesome would that be?!) The atmosphere and the tension is great; the leader actors are angst-filled, and the deaths are nice and gory.
The writing and direction are good enough that I didn't realize I was watching a pulp trash movie until two-thirds of the way in. The supporting cast is weak, however, and only exist as vamp food.
But it was entertaining enough. I think the director shows promise, especially if he had a bigger budget.
