Review of Stake Land (2010) by Ian M — 01 May 2011
I absolutely disagree with the people bashing this movie. I absolutely loved it. Yeah, it was a little slow at times, but no slower than 'the Road,' and that was almost unanimously loved. This movie took a basic concept (essentially a Road toned combo of the Road and Zombieland) and really explored a teen coming of age and coming to grips with this world around him.
While I admit that the final conflict is absolutely off the wall goofy (especially since they set up a much better source of conflict early on in the story). But that aside, this film is just riveting.
The villains are outright evil. I mean there is a point where they ruin an otherwise rare joyous moment in a way that just had me shocked at how evil their actions were. The protagonists are not great people, they are just people.
And Mister? He is a friggin badass of the highest order. I don't care what anybody says... If you don't mind a moderate to slow paced apocalypse flick, this is for you!
