Review of Stake Land (2010) by Sinclair Z — 20 Jun 2011
Take Zombieland, substitute zombies for vampires, academy award nominees for a destined to be unknown, Woody Harrelson for a bloke that looks like Danny Trejo but isn't and finally take out the comedic element and you have Stake Land.
Despite being critically acclaimed and reasonably well acted, the plot is monotonous and the scares aren't really that jumpy.
I personally prefer the vampire sub genre where 'vampire' is used as an allegory for the darker side of human nature, representing the unwanted part of someone who is still somewhere human, rather than mindless killers. (That's what zombies are for!).
