Review of Stake Land (2010) by Simon O — 04 Apr 2012
The plot is more cohesive than some movies I've seen and the sets are nice as well. Beyond that, absolutely everything is done poorly. The music is overly sad throughout and the cues for it never make a lick of sense.
The script is barely there, with little more than a silent film would have. The acting is straight up terrible, and there's no character development. I love how the description under the Tomatometer says "strong characterization," because that's easily the worst part.
The "Christian lady" has no other characteristics beyond that, yet we're supposed to care about her. But lets talk about religion in the context of this movie. WHY do you have both a supposedly likable Christian woman AND a radical right wing aryan militia group in the same movie? It has no purpose and leaves you scratching your head as to the filmmakers intentions.
And anyway, if you are a Christian or conservative at all this movie will just offend you. But believe me, that's not coloring my perception. This movie has tremendous technical problems. The person who made this simply didn't know how to make a movie.
It's just a bad ripoff of Zombieland and The Road. Go watch those instead.
