Review of Stake Land (2010) by Graham B — 11 Mar 2013
Oh comparisons in reviews are so passe, but this IS The Walking Dead meets The Road. Basically no barrel of laughs. Not a bad thing at all. It is bleak and should be as the situation set is a big bag of bleakness.
Low budget, but makes the most of every penny spent. It is a beautifully shot and told story. Great performances all round. Not quite sure of the whole range of vampire mutations. When you change the rules constantly in supernatural films, it kind of gets my goat. It's forgiveable though as it is a tale that pulls no punches and drags the rug from under any hope.
Great casting. Connor Paulo is certainly a face to look out for and a barely recognisable Kelly McGillis completely suprised me in the credits.
A very worthy film.
