Review of Stagecoach (1939) by Sarfaraz A — 20 Jun 2011
Stagecoach Directed by John Ford, Starring John Wayne.
A first perfect work by John Ford to make a daring western, which bears the striking scenes of stagecoach and chase of one of great scenes in cinema-history. Cinematography work on the film is artistically done, when Luke Plummer (Tom Tyler) is told about Ringo Kid (John Wayne) in the town, he wakes outs of chair, and his face from top to bust is shown in shadow, it is probably a grand work of cinematography by Bert Glennon (also nominated for Best Cinematography by Academy Awards).
It is no doubt one of best westerns from John Ford, along with The Searchers and so on. John Wayne was thrilled himself to be let to play character of Ringo Kid. All actors in the film done their level-best performance.
When Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell) is taunted for being drunkard, the way he is sobered up with splash of water onto his face and cups of black-coffee, I guess that's extremely one of best scenes from the film.
