Review of Stage Fright (1950) by L J — 29 Sep 2007
Jane Wyman is pretty great as the actress trying to save Richard Todd from murder charges, but it's the superb Alastair Sim who steals the film, as far as I'm concerned.
Hitchcock made this in England (after several Hollywood productions), and assembled a wonderful supporting cast of great British comedians and character actors (Sim, the legendary Joyce Grenfell, Andre Morell, Miles Malleson, plus Alfie Bass and Irene Handl (both uncredited) and Ballard Berkeley (who in later years played the barking mad Major in Fawlty Towers)).
A minor classic. Was Dietrich playing herself?
