Review of St. Vincent (2014) by Gavin P — 11 May 2015
A really well-made drama/comedy. It's good to see Bill Murray in a leading role and it's refreshing to see McCarthy playing it straight, but Watts hamming it up as a Russian prostitute! Murray does his best disheveled/grumpy Jack Nicholson impersonation, but despite what he says, the way he acts towards Oliver (Lieberher) betrays his golden heart.
There's a few laughs, but nothing hilarious - the final 15min or so are extremely touching, with great morals on never giving up on those you care about. The film doesn't outstay it's welcome, there's some nice Brooklyn background & it never hurts to have O'Dowd in the supporting cast.
