Review of St. Vincent (2014) by Michael K — 14 Sep 2015
At first I thought thus was another Rushmore, perhaps that was just because it is Bill Murray mentoring a kid, though this was something different, somewhat Gran Touring but more like Bad Santa for warm weather months.
This is Murray at his best, desiring a great performance and the ability to show great range. I'm not a big Melissa McCarthy fan but I think she nailed it, as a struggling single Mom. Naomi Watts was the weakest link mainly because her attempt at a Russian accent made you look out for a cartoon moose and squirrel.
The movie had heart, and was well done. This is the kind of under the radar movie that hopefully picks up a following a few years later.
