Review of St. Vincent (2014) by Adam S — 12 Dec 2014
What is great about this film, is probably obvious - Bill Murray. What perhaps might be a surprise with regards to what is great about this film is Melissa McCarthy. I like McCarthy already, but she is perhaps in danger of being pigeonholed within her career, but not anymore - we see her first genuine performance portraying a single mum on the edge, and it is a great performance - yes it is still a comedy but not of the same vein we are used to seeing her in.
It is a feel good, perhaps predictable movie about a grouchy old man next-door, who inadvertently becomes a babysitter. We unravel Murray's character Vince in a way to ensure you feel nothing but compassion for him - however there are no big surprises.
An enjoyable enough watch, but it doesn't pack a punch.
