Review of Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams (2002) by Appu B — 22 Oct 2010
Actually better than the first one, plot-wise, but there's some real stank here. The CGI is laughably bad at times (though with the miniature zoos, it's not nearly as awful.) Daryl Sabara is horribly and it sounds like he yells every line he has because he has no idea how to intone emotion.
Banderas and Gugino are barely there--like most adults in this film--so it's basically up to Alexa Vega to carry it all by herself. She does an admirable job, but it's not enough. I did, however, find the song at the end catchy in a bad sort of way.
Like, I don't know why I liked it, but I did. Weird. Anyway, long story short, this movie sucks and Robert Rodriguez should stick to hyper-stylized action films.
