A great movie from 2001. The story is about the bond of trust and friendship that exist between handler and agent in the vicious world of undercover state sponsored assasins. Nathan Muir (Redford) on his last day of work at the CIA, does all he can to rescue his agent Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt)from a Chinese prison, who was caught while executing a mission the CIA did not order.
To save him, Muir has to take on the CIA, as the CIA is more than willing to sacrifice Bishop to maintain good relations with China. Story told in a unique way through flashbacks.
