Review of Spy Game (2001) by Affinity . — 10 Aug 2008
I have always loved this movie. And even watching it in German yesterday didn't totally ruin it for me, which must mean it's incredible, right?
But seriously. The acting is great, the story is interesting and finds the perfect balance between politics, action, and romance. I rather enjoy the fact that the story isn't always the easiest to follow. SO few movies attempt to make their audiences think. One of my favourite scenes is when Pitt is taking Redford to breakfast and they have to duck and run all the way there for fear of getting shot. It just seems so run-of-the-mill to Pitt's character. It would be funny if it weren't so sad and horrifying, which is the point.
Spy Game has amazing tempo, too. Switching back and forth between CIA inter-office conflict and spy-world drama. I never get tired of watching this one. For some reason I still notice something new and different every time. Terrific.
