Review of Spy Game (2001) by Mike D — 27 Feb 2011
'Spy Game' is a smart, internationally-set thriller that tries to strike a balance between bullets and brains. Helmed by Tony Scott, the film stays true to its name in that the audience has to immerse itself in the game of the plot to fully understand the back story.
While the slow pace tends to take some of the excitement out of the movie, the acting by Robert Redford and Brad Pitt almost make up for it. The amount of flashbacks are a little distracting, but since they are essential to the rest of the story, there's not much else you can do about them.
While things could be better, and it comes off a little pretentious, 'Spy Game' does a good job of standing out from a crowded field of similarly marketed films.
