Review of Spy (2015) by Lewis E — 24 Nov 2015
This action comedy from the director of Bridesmaids and The Heat, Paul Feig (and likewise starring Melissa McCarthy) is about a CIA analyst, Susan Cooper (McCarthy) who has to stop a suitcase nuke when her partner Bradley Fine (played by Jude Law) is assassinated by Rayna Boyanov (played by Rose Byrne). Things get complicated when fellow FBI agent Rick Ford (played by Jason Statham in a comedic turn for him) gets involved too.
There are a few reasons why I enjoyed this film. While I didn't see Bridesmaids or The Heat, I still found the film funny. Special kudos to Jason Statham, who was my favorite character of the show despite being a total asshole in the movie, as he was so stupid that he was the funniest character. McCarthy was very funny, too. Another thing I liked about the movie is the action sequences which were well executed.
In conclusion, Spy would definitely be worth watching if you enjoy a light-hearted action movie. Do look out for 50 Cent's cameo, too.
Pros:
Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham are fun to watch and are hilarious.
Well-executed action sequences.
Rose Byrne's portayal as the villain.
Cameos to watch.
Cons:
This show was so fun to watch. Cons are probably very minor. Violence was probably too high for a comedy, I guess? Not really much bad to say here.
