Review of Spy (2015) by Richard F — 20 Jan 2016
I'll give it this much, there were clearly funny parts to his movie; a watch with Barbara Hershey, "you remind me of a woman from my village, she was a stupid clown, children made fun of her behind her back.
.." Melissa McCarthy was brilliant and brought me back to Physical comedy of Lucialle Ball. Allison Janney, known for West Wing, was a great straight man and was so memorable. Romain Apelbaum brought a great Italian spy.
.. "Or not" or did he? There were plenty of quotable moments but what derailed the entire flick was Jason Statham. The movie just did not need the character. The unnecessary character brought a level of vulgarity that took away instead of add to the humor.
It get as though they created a part to have another big name in the movie, but it brought the movie down. Without Rick Ford I may have said this was a refreshing comedy.
