Review of Spy (2015) by Connor M — 29 May 2017
When this movie came out, I heard nothing but great things for it. I'm not the biggest Melissa McCarthy fan, and I respect what she does, but her comedy doesn't really resonate with me. I was coming into this movie hopeful, but I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't end up liking it.
The first half of the movie was fantastic with its non-stop action and laughs, and I could see where all of the positive reviews were coming from. Unfortunately, as the film went on it started to become more and more unnecessarily filthy.
McCarthy goes from an innocent and sweet lady to a total cuss-machine and for me it just didn't settle well. Thankfully this only happened in the last thirty minutes or so. Other than that I thought the story was fantastic and the comedy hit most of the time.
I really enjoyed this movie, but I think that if it would've held back on the filthiness just a little more towards the end I would've liked this movie a lot more.
