Review of Spy (2015) by Simon W — 01 Jan 2016
Melissa McCarthy has proved she's Teflon over the last few years, considering that she hasn't had a decent movie since busting onto the scene with Bridesmaids, yet still seemingly has the critics in her back pocket.
Finally, a script comes along that's worthy of her talent. Granted, Spy doesn't make her come out of the foul-mouthed comfort zone that she's had through all the previous stinkers. But she finally found a movie that wasn't "gee, we think she's hilarious.
Let's sign her to the movie, then figure out a script." Plenty of meaty roles left for people like Rose Byrne and Jason Statham to keep things going when the jokes fall flat.
