Review of Spy (2015) by Stephen C — 08 Mar 2016
The spy spoof market can be a crowded affair with Johnny English Austin Powers and Sacha Baron Cohen all either hitting the target or missing completely.
Now Melissa McCarthy and director Paul Feig step into the ring and I am pleased to say they knock all the others out the park.
McCarthy plays Susan Cooper a dowdy Analyst at the CIA is called into action when all the other agents have there cover blown.
She is tasked with an observe and report mission but soon she is in way over her head leading to some very funny set pieces.
McCarthy is a treat as Cooper she is a natural comedian and she also gets to kick some ass along the way too.
Miranda Hart is good value as her best friend but for me its Jason Statham as the gormless Rick Ford who gets the biggest laughs as he describes how he has survived loads of different nasty experiences.
Feig paces the film with expert precision and one hopes we haven't seen the last of Agent Cooper.
