Review of Spun (2003) by Carlos Z — 27 May 2009
SPUN is so kinetic that it becomes inert. There is so much happening in this movie, dense with subplots and bizarre characters, that you almost don't realize that this is all a clever optical illusion. Nothing is happening. There is no content beyond the drugged out visions you see on the screen. Only Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, and some all-too-brief animated sequences manage to save it.
For some reason, I fancied this movie a masterpiece in high school. Good to know I'm more sophisticated and mature now. And now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch CARPOOL for the fifteenth time today.
