Review of Spun (2003) by Archibald T — 20 Sep 2009
The characters are sad and pathetic, but there is a strange affection when watching them that made me sympathize for their shitty lives. Much of the "story" is subjective because the film isn't taking much of the characters seriously except for their drug consumption.
Some parts, especially when a character snorts cocaine or shoots up, didn't feel sensationalized which is good because it isn't special to see somebody do drugs unless you're Hunter S. Thompson (may he RIP).
One thing that is overdone is the sexual content which was very hilarious. Leguizamo jacking off with a sock over his schlong while having phone sex will leave you in stitches. Schwartzman having constant sex with Chloe Hunter where she ends being left tied with tape over her mouth, eyes and naked to his bed because he has to go see pick up Rourke's girlfriend played by Brittany Murphy.
The reason for leaving her tied to his bed is because, and I quote, "I'll be right back." Darkly funny, but serious in what it's basically trying to say: Drugs screw up your life.
