Review of Spun (2003) by Tony P — 10 Oct 2009
Although there is some visual plagiarism of Requiem for a Dream, Spun is a fiercely distinct drug epic. The abusive sound design and rapidfire editing simulate a rattling meth head experience. The film is comical in its repugnance and full of vicious performances.
The characters all start out as hopeless maniacs, but end up as a collection of sad clowns. The more time spent in the den of insanity, the more light begins to shine through the grit. It's a twisted episodic with a gut-wrenching ending and an incredible Billy Corgan soundtrack.
Very sick, but so well made.
