Review of Spun (2003) by Brendan H — 21 Dec 2009
As i've said to countless people on countless occasions, Hollywood usually fails miserably when it tries to capture the behaviour or the lingo from a drug subculture, but with SPUN, they got it oh so right. As a recovering meth addict, I sat and watched in gleeful horror as the film rolled, and situation after impossible situation unfolded before my eyes. These were people I knew, or have known, and how many times have I been to the connection's house when he supposedly 'lost the dope'? Too many to count, that's for sure.
At any rate, the critics panned this film, which is baffling, since it's an ugly, art-house-y type of flick. Mick LaSalle can kiss my ass. This film rocks.
Brittany Murphy, RIP.
