Review of Spun (2003) by Tara Y — 10 Jul 2010
I felt ashamed to be a man and absolutely miserable after watching this one. It really probes at the idea of "the death of masculinity," as all of the male characters seem unable to control their own lives and identity.
It's a bleak portrait of amphetamine use where everyone seemed corrupt and unlikeable...well, I admit I liked Brittany Murphy, who is a superb actress. Damn, I miss her. Anyway, it's a pretty fucked up film and not for the squeamish or faint of heart.
I think the film could have used another half hour for good measure, it ended too quickly and they could have delved deeper into Spider Mike and Cookie's stories.
