Review of Spring Forward (2000) by Roland A — 14 Jun 2007
I?m not sure how the movie Spring Forward made it onto my NetFlix queue. Whatever, I?m glad that it did.
I tend to like indie foreign films because there are few characters, but they are developed and the relationships are intricate. US films tend to be ?action-packed? with not much of a story.
Spring Forward moves slowly and is basically dialogue and the evolution of a caring friendship between two people - an older man and a younger man. The younger man is still paying for his sins against society. He?s just out of prison and he got exposed to ?spirituality? through reading in prison.
The older man is dealing with his own fears - including accepting the reality that his son is dying of AIDS and the struggle to express love to his son.
This is a simple ?year-in-the-life? movie. The simplicity is arresting.
If anyone has thought about what a discipleship or spiritual director relationship might look like, this is the film for you!
