Review of Spring Breakers (2013) by Tor M — 04 Nov 2013
Harmony is one of the most interesting film makers out there. For me this is his most typical film so far. With a setting like this, where young, pretty, former Disney Channel ladies are doing drugs and only wear one square of clothing material combined - you are bound to get some attention.
Sadly, the film is mostly this, and only this. Nude and semi nude girls, drinking, doing drugs and having a great time. It reminds me of a mixture of "Project x", some "Girls Gone Wild" material and a white, stereotypical rapper's extended music video. Put on some action and some neat semi Malic-like filming and you have this film.
Franco is believeable but I can't help but think that his character is a grown thirteen year old, playing cool. Anyhow, we get some visual stuff here, but it drowns in guns, money, boobs and assets.
Why all the hate? I can enjoy parts of it, but it's not extreme enough, well developed or entertaining. I wanted something more, something to remember, some substance, but it's not much here at all.
4 out of 10 bikinis.
