Review of Spring Breakers (2013) by Daniel S — 23 Dec 2013
This film is misunderstood by many, which is probably what the director intended. Actually, part of the intrigue of this film is that I don't think anyone but Harmony Korine knows exactly what he was going for.
The entire film is a paradox on so many levels. There is so much stupidity in this film, but I think that's part of the point? There's so much brilliance, but it's then taken back a moment later.
It's filmed like a memory, but the colors are so vibrant that it couldn't possibly be a memory. Literally everything about this film is challenging, and most moviegoers would just throw it out, but I think there's more to it than they'd realize.
It's not a great film by any means, but it is a thought provoking one. Oh yeah and James Franco's a badass.
