Review of Spring Breakers (2013) by Jeffrey M — 20 Jan 2014
This candy-colored, hypnotic ode to decadent and violent selfishness really surprised me with its incredible cinematography, editing, music, and sound. It feels a bit like the Natural Born Killers of the early 21st century.
With styling and lighting reminiscent of Miami Vice in the 1980s, Spring Breakers stands out as a unique piece of auteur filmmaking that I only wish had more meaning for me. I just couldn't find something more in the writing and characters to grab me and make me love this film.
But I definitely appreciate it on its surface artistic and craftsmanship levels. Definitely a film I want to revisit at some point.
