Despite a fine veneer, it takes itself too seriously for me to take it seriously. Anytime the characters step out of stereotype, Korine quickly slams them back in. Everything is so untethered and extreme that the film's importance becomes impossible to find.
It's clearly a pop fantasy, but it can't make a point worth remembering.
