As a fan of arthouse/experimental cinema and a follower of Korine's work, this film did not surprise me a bit and in fact fascinated me. But for the friends I took with me who weren't expecting what I was, the offense they took from Spring Breakers was unbelievable. They were disgusted to have paid money for it.

The repetitive, mindless dialogue, the shallow characters, and hypnotic imagery disturbed them deeply. They could not believe that this film could come into being. To them, it had no substance. It was a piece of filth they could not stand to watch. Their disdain made me so uncomfortable that I had to leave the cinema for a minute to collect my bearings. If Korine was to hear this, I'm sure he'd be proud.

Spring Breakers is a provocative presentation of the sleazy, dehumanizing nature of spring break.

It plays like a neon lit nightmare with the haunting words of James Franco echoing throughout.

Whether you love it or hate it, Harmony Korine proves once again that he has a vision unlike any other filmmakers around today.
