Review of Spring (2014) by Dan H — 20 Mar 2015
A weird romance (and yes, this is mainly a romance with a few horror elements thrown in. I'd say 90 % Romance, 10% Horror Film/creature feature). The script is extremely well written, it's well cast, the acting is pretty great.
Lou Taylor Pucci (our lead), Nadia Hilker (his main squeeze), and Francesco Carnelutti (a wise, helpful old man) are all great. The film is definitely pretty freaky and gross at times, but it's also sweet, cute, charming, and surprisingly realistic (Also, it's really not scary.
...at all, though there is some suspense/tension at times). The filmmakers also manage to craft an interesting new creature that comes with its own cool mythology and biology. Spring is a great sophomore effort from Benson and Moorhead, It's not a masterpiece but I feel that eventually these filmmakers may strike gold.
