Review of Spring (2014) by Brett H — 14 Feb 2016
Mysterious and creepy, "Spring" manages to give us an intriguing love story with a monstrous twist that will keep you guessing.
"Spring" follows the story of a young man who moves out to Italy to escape his past, and soon meets this woman. However, this woman may not be who she says she is, and as things start to unravel, we find ourselves in the midst of a horror romance flick that is intelligent in many ways.
First and foremost, this movie is a romance. Its prime reason for its creation is to tell a story about love and relationships, and the horror element is just a twist on it. I'm perfectly fine with it being more of a romance movie, as it really felt like their was depth with the plot. You can go into this film expecting a romantic flick rather than some horror film that will scare you, as this movie really is about the romantic journey between these two people.
The actors here were great, as both Lou Taylor Pucci and Nadia Hilker put up solid performances. Both were very strong in their roles. and they were impressive overall. They both brought plenty of emotion and intensity to their roles. and their characters were flushed out very well.
The screenplay is intelligent and crafty, as the directors and writers put together a very strong script. I really enjoyed the writing and the dialogue amongst characters, and I found myself thoroughly hooked by the script. I've been writing my own screenplay as of late, and that has increased my appreciation for movies in general, and it makes this movie a better experience. They establish both characters very well and it feels like the dialogue always had meaning to it. I credit everyone here for putting together a very strong film, and I was impressed by how resourceful the film was.
I'm pretty upset that this film didn't even make $50k, as it certainly deserves a lot more credit. The film was shot and directed in a very smart way, and there are plenty of scenes with hidden meanings. If you examine the movie throughout, there are many thought provoking scenes that really make you think a lot, and ones that can spark plenty of different perspectives within people. I really think that this is a smart movie, and I'm glad I discovered a quality romance-horror film.
The movie really relays some touching messages about love and lust, and I really found myself falling into the script. I really loved what the movie was trying to do, and the horror twist made the movie just a little more thrilling. The movie wouldn't be a bad film for a date night, and is certainly worth checking out.
In the end, this is a quality made film that is solid all around. I really enjoyed this movie, and it managed to create an atmosphere that I loved. Overall, I give this movie 4 stars.
