Review of Spring (2014) by Marc K — 08 Feb 2017
I haven't watched a movie in a long time that had me so pleasantly intrigued and then just completely lost me. The first half of this movie is just so great. The atmosphere is perfect, the setup is believable and the interaction between the characters is spot on.
But as soon as we saw the first transformation, this movie just got bad. It turned from an smart, atmospheric horror thriller into a shitty romance novel. The worst scene by far was right after Evan cured Louise with the syringe.
there's this banal plot dump that occurs when Louise attempts to explain her situation in rapid fire instead of having the audience draw their own conclusions. "I'm a human but I'm immortal and I have to get pregnant every 20 years or I keep aging also I transform when I get pregnant into random evolutionary links to humans and kill people and I have these random syringes that can temporarily cure me.
" Then the cherry on top is that all of that gets negated if she falls in love because "hormones." This girl is possessed by some Cthulhu monster and the only thing that can trump it is love.
How terribly boring. Get ready to yawn your way through the last 60 minutes of this movie as they reuse the same plot vehicle ad nauseum. the two meet up at night, do something impulsive and the have a witty duologue back and forth.
I still can't believe this girl gives up eternal life after 2000 years to some random dude who literally never changes his clothes and doesn't have a dollar to his name. Honesty the dude is a gold digger.
once she told him that she had 3 houses he knew what he had.
