Review of Spread (2009) by Jesse C — 25 Feb 2010
Best opening monologue to a story about L.A. I've seen in a long time. Rest of film...had to live in LA to get it. Is a person who only wears Diesel considered a hipster? And drives a mercedes nazi mobile?
Every girl her interacts with lets him know that he lacks any intellectual stimulation and they only like him for his looks so it is overtly sexual, and can be overwhelming for people who actually still have shock value. I'm at the point now, and have been, where nothing is shocking.
Spread is a nice attempt at something, has potential, but ultimately doesn't live up to it. The soundtrack is absolutely terrible and distracting in its atrocity except for the final two tracks. The narration is by far the best element of the movie.
