Review of Spotlight (2015) by Kaustubh H — 13 Mar 2016
You can spot an Oscar worthy film from a distance. Spotlight is a brilliantly made film on one of the lesser known but horrifying acts done in the name of religion through the perspective of the journalists who uncovered those to bring it to public attention.
There are no superheroes, big explosions or surprising twists but it is a film made with meticulous attention and in a way to keep you hooked to your seat despite the absence of popcorn thrills. Supported by a solid cast comprising of Keaton, McAdams, Ruffalo and Liev Schreiber Spotlight in an extremely nuanced and methodical way portrays one of the biggest cover ups behind the veil of the Catholic Church and religion as a whole.
It is a story that needs to be known.
