Review of Spotlight (2015) by Neil P — 06 Jan 2017
What was initially a ropey start with dubious music and a distinct feeling of television movies from the 90s soon turned into an interesting piece on journalism and conspiracies. The cast is absolutely stellar and once I adpated to their boston accents they were a joy throughout.
Liev Shreiber continues to be a very diverse actor while Ruffalo and Keaton are always dependable (it's good to see Keaton being more active). The cover up is despicable from the ones actively involved but the film does a great job of showing it was also covered up by those simply not wanting to believe it was so widespread and even those who ignored because it didn't seem a big enough story at the time.
It's a film that reminds you investigative journalism is still of vital importance and that the news isn't just about celebrities, advertising and clickbait.
