Review of Split (2017) by Larry C — 19 Dec 2017
This movie isn't that bad, which isn't exactly a glowing endorsement but based off of M. Night Shyamalan's track record the last decade-and-a-half this gets more of a thumbs up than a thumbs down like if Smash Mouth came out with a decent song that would seem more like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as opposed to "While Your Stomach Violently Heaves" in their normal repertoire.
Anyways, this movie is kind of a poor man's "Silence of the Lambs" but unlike Shyamalan's usual movies where I want them to get over as soon as possible I felt this needed another half hour or so to deal with the kidnapper's different personalities and the imprisoned girls attempts to manipulate them in hopes of planning an escape. Kudos to Shyamalan for not relying on a cartoonish plot twist in the end which had become a crutch of his in his other movies but the climax seemed too brief with not enough resolution.
