Review of Split (2017) by Paul R — 09 Jun 2017
Having missed this at the cinema I was hugely looking forward to "Split" as I had heard so many good things. What a disappointment. Seriously, this has to be the biggest letdown of the year so far, painfully dull, devoid of any sort of tension or scares and it's only saving grace is James McAvoy.
It starts off well, 3 young girls are abducted by a lunatic with 20 plus personalities. However there script ties itself in all sorts of knots and it becomes a farce, veering towards Channel 5 levels of mediocrity.
The supposed twist ending is a letdown and it's "universe building" comes across as desperate. "The Visit" is far superior as is "Devil".
Shyamalan is indeed a talented director and I love "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs" but by god he can also turn out some complete toss.
