Review of Split (2017) by Franklin V — 10 Jun 2017
After months of hearing the praise about M. Night Shyamalan's new thriller, Spilt, I decided to finally check it out so I rented it on Redbox to see why people are saying this is Shyamalan'a big comeback.
After months of hype and finally seeing it...it was one the most disappointing moments of my life in films. I absolutely didn't not like Spilt. I thought it was boring, the writing is awkward and dumb, the suspense went nowhere, and it lead to a disappointing ending like all his films.
I love the idea of the film, but Shymalan doesn't bring to its full potential. The only redeemable things I can find was the exchange scenes between the psychologist and Kevin's personalities, and the cinematography.
The scenes set up a chilling suspense letting my mind fill with imagination, and I admit I like James McAvoy's portray of this mentally ill man. Also the cinematography makes this the best looking Shymalan film.
The connection to Unbreakable was unnecessary and poor. The only reason the connection is there is so Shyamalan can add a supernatural element to the story and it's ridiculous. I absolutely hate the girls.
They have bland acting and keep making stupid decisions that even a ten year old wouldn't do. I can not understand why so many people like this lazy, jumbled mess of a thriller. M. Night Shymalan has added another humiliating film to his collection.
