Review of Split (2017) by James W — 27 Jun 2017
Not even the villain's amazing acting could save this movie. First, in order to swallow even half the shit the plot throws at you, you must have no knowledge of biology or mental illnesses. (and I do).
I don't think M. Night puts much research into these things and quite honestly I'm pretty sick of his whole "mentally ill people are so scary" shtick. There's enough stigma against those people without M Night's ignorant bs.
After watching most of his movies and then The Visit, followed by this, I can safely say I don't want to see another movie this man makes. He has no idea how to convey good storytelling, character development, subtlety, or depth.
And no, no matter how good the actors he chooses are, they can't fix those issues.
