Split was meh. It had its gain and bad moments. Mostly bad. So Split is about a Man named Kevin who has 23 personalities. And a group of them are planning something to give pain to the painless. The reason this film intrigued me was that the different personalities that this man could have, man child, criminal, the insane. There are so many opportunities. But I felt like there was a big majority of identities he could've used. Not to say that the characters they used were bad. In fact, they were amazing and at points scary. And sometimes even funny. The tones changed downhill very quickly in one scene. And then continued as if nothing happened. The first hour and a half were the best. Although it did lack a lot of horror for a horror flick. It was the last 10 minutes and the first 5 minutes that presented of the most horror or any horror.

This movie was a huge disappointment. The main antagonist was Casey Cooke portrayed by present actor Anya Taylor-Joy, and child flashback actor, Izzie Coffey. They used Casey Cooke as some sort of origin story. The flashbacks needed more context. I was confused about the rape flashback, did she get rapped? The audio made the attempted executed scary scenes look silly. Haley Lu Richardson and Jessica Sula characters were so irrelevant to the plot. So the only pros were probably James McAvoy performance and Dr. Karen Fletcher story.

James McAvoy acting was the greatest I have ever seen. His performance left me shook every scene. Dr. Fletcher was portrayed by Betty Buckley. Everything about her was fine but her knowledge on split personality disorder was interesting, I didn't know if it was true but it gave more story to Kevin. Pretty much no special effects were used in this. This movie is interesting but if you're looking for a decent horror. This movie is powerless.

Grade: C.
