Review of Splendor in the Grass (1961) by Ashley H — 12 Feb 2006
Splendor in the Grass is a poignant movie showing us young love between Deanie and Bud. All the time, you know that the parents are setting them up for disaster. Also, the time period added a lot symbolically to the film: Care-free Roaring Twenties which eventually led to harsh reality of the Depression.
Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood portray young people confronted with society that has yet to free from a puritan moral. Passion is allowed only in lit they study in high school, and sport is shown as a way of repression.
