Review of Splash (1984) by Baurushan J — 14 Jul 2013
The story takes place in 1959 where a ten year old boy named Allen Bauer falls into the sea but is rescued by a mermaid. Twenty-five years later, he is grown up and played by Tom Hanks who miserable of his love life, goes to the island he believes he once saw the mermaid.
There he sees a blond woman played by Daryl Hannah who Allen takes back to his hometown in New York City. She adopts the name Madison from a street sign and learns to speak English after watching six hours of TV at a shopping centre but a scientist named Dr.
Kornbluth played by Eugene Levy is right behind her tail because the secret is that she is the mermaid that Allen has been searching for and Kornbluth is right. Madison has legs outside the water and fins in the water but in order to keep Madison safe from the humans, she must return to the sea and Allen wants to join as well.
This movie is a warm-hearted light romance movie that has strong direction and brilliant performances from its two lead actors. Splash gets a 9.5/10.
