There is nothing new in this movie (several strangers brought together in a haunted house, mysterious padlocked door, discovery of an ancient weatherbeaten journal, etc.) but the formula was executed well resulting in a pretty enjoyable movie.
I thought the acting was quite good and there was a lot more atmospheric tension and suspense than gore.
